- How is transfer time calculated?
- Transfer time is the file size in bits divided by the connection speed in bits per second. Because a byte is 8 bits, a file's size in megabytes is multiplied by 8 before dividing by a speed given in megabits per second (Mbps).
- Why does my upload take longer than this estimate?
- This tool shows the best case at full advertised speed. Real transfers are slower because of protocol overhead, network congestion, Wi-Fi limits, and — for uploads — the fact that most home connections have much slower upload than download speeds.
- What's the difference between Mbps and MB/s?
- Mbps is megabits per second, the unit ISPs advertise. MB/s is megabytes per second, what a download manager shows. There are 8 bits in a byte, so a 100 Mbps connection transfers at most about 12.5 MB/s.
- Is my upload speed the same as my download speed?
- Usually not. Cable and DSL connections are typically much slower on upload than download, which matters when you're the one sending large files to a client. Check your upload speed specifically before promising a delivery time.
