- What metadata does this remove?
- It removes EXIF and other embedded metadata by re-encoding the image — camera and phone model, capture date and time, exposure settings, and GPS location coordinates. The visible pixels are unchanged; only the hidden data attached to the file is stripped.
- Why does removing EXIF matter?
- Photos taken on a phone often embed the exact GPS location and timestamp. Sharing them publicly — or with a client — can leak where you live or work. Stripping EXIF before you share protects that information.
- Is the image uploaded anywhere?
- No. The file is read and re-encoded entirely in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server, which is exactly what you want for a privacy tool.
- Does removing metadata reduce quality?
- For PNG and WebP, the re-encode is lossless. For JPEG, the cleaned copy is re-saved at high quality (92%), so any quality change is negligible and usually invisible.
